McTaggart, Armstrong, Dewar & Owen Insurance Brokers – Aylmer, ON
Over 80 YRS…Broker experience as “YOUR INSURANCE SHOPPER” for “INSURANCE THAT FITS”| 1926… | Originally located on 39 Talbot Street West the business started with two partners – Mr. McTaggart & Mr. Armstrong. They were joined by Mr. Dewar & Mr. Owen some time later. |
| 1958… | Shirley Fallowfield joined the company as a secretary. |
| 1965… | A major main street fire in February forced a move to a temporary location at 99 Talbot Street West until a new location was built. |
| 1965… | Mr. Dewar passed away in March and his portion of the business was purchased by Bob & Lynn Grisenthwaite. |
| 1966… | Bob Grisenthwaite built a new 2 storey building at 34-36 Talbot St. W. McTaggart Armstrong Dewar & Owen and Jack Rice Caterers were on the 2nd floor and the Province of Ontario Savings office was on the main floor. |
| 1970… | The last remaining original partner, Mr. Owen, retired and his portion of the Company was purchased by Bob Grisenthwaite. |
| 1970… | Sam Patterson purchased part of the company from Bob Grisenthwaite. |
| 1973… | Noreen Phillips joined the company as Bookkeeper. |
| 1978… | Sam Patterson decided to go out on his own and Mike Devine, a local insurance Broker, became an employee shortly after Sam’s departure. |
| 1982… | Bob Grisenthwaite signed an agreement with Shirley, Noreen and Mike to purchase the company in the event of his death. |
| 1984… | Bob died, making Shirley, Noreen and Mike the new owners. Eventually, Shirley and Noreen purchased Mike’s portion of the company, leaving just two owners. |
| 1995… | Shirley sold her interest in the Company to Crawford & Danyluk who are the current co-owners with Noreen Phillips. Shirley continues to work as a Broker for the company. |
| After 1996… | Cathy Fallowfield, Dwayne Gagne and Trudy Klassen have been added as Brokers. |
| 2005… | Cathy Fallowfield was promoted to Office Manager. |
Our staff are very active in each of their communities, belonging to and supporting schools, minor sports, town projects, senior’s events and all health related charities.
