| 1843… | The McNeil Family settled in Port Talbot (Colonel Talbot’s land) and the family still resides on the original farm where farming is their life. |
| 1936… | McNeil Insurance began in Dutton when John McNeil’s Uncle Murray bought Dan Black’s Insurance business in a building (Dr. Campbell is there now) across the street from the present office. |
| 1938… | Uncle Murray died and John McNeil’s father bought the business that year from his sister-in-law, Mildred. |
| 1952… | John started in the business with his Dad. At that time they served the area
with licences in Life Insurance, General Insurance and Real Estate. John continued his life-long love for farming while operating his Insurance office. To this day, John and Phyllis operate their “Hereford Cattle” farm and had the prestigious honour of being presented with a Gold Pin for“100 years of continuous membership in the Hereford Cattle Association”. |
| 1979… | Over a coffee, John hired Bonnie Vowel. Bonnie wrote and passed her Insurance Brokers licence in 1981. |
| 1989… | John wanted to dedicate all of his time to his farm so he spread the word that he would like to sell the McNeil Insurance business. |
| 1990… | John sat down with Dan Danyluk, and in June, Crawford and Danyluk Insurance Brokers bought McNeil’s. Bonnie stayed on as the Office Manager and has continued on as Manager to this day. |
| 1990… | McNeil Insurance moved across the street to 181 Main St (Currie Rd). Ironically, “181” had been a “Wind Insurance” office in the past. |
| 2002… | Bonnie was elected Mayor of Dutton/Dunwich while continuing to Manage the McNeil Insurance Brokerage office. |
